Seller's Highlights

MORE ABOUT THE HOUSE (niceties, and infrastructure):

All of the cabinetry is custom built of solid wood; the kitchen design provides enormous storage capacity, which includes a lazy susan, upper appliance garage with electrical power (great place for a microwave), extra deep pantry and refrigerator well, storage accessible from living area, and beautiful see-through and pass-through glass uppers (ideal for loading service ware from the kitchen, then unloading from the living area to entertain!). The bathroom medicine cabinets all boast beveled glass mirrors, and authentic antique hardware.

The kitchen counter tops are crafted of poured-in-place custom Hawaiian Coral concrete!

The living area is pre-wired for surround sound, terminating in one of the built-in book cases, next to a cable point and electrical outlet.

The guest bathroom clawfoot bathtub is a rare full six foot long soaking tub. The toilets in both bathrooms are authentic two-piece antiques which have been re-fitted with modern internal plumbing works.

All of the bedrooms have modern insulated glass windows and new in-wall air conditioning units, new high quality carpet, mirrored wardrobe doors, and smoke detectors.

This home has been totally renovated from top to bottom! Any discovered termite-compromised structural members have either been replaced or augmented with new material. The house underwent a full termite fumigation (tenting) less than a year ago as part of a maintenance regiment that arrests new infestations - this process came with a five year warranty.

All of the plumbing has been modernized with heavy gauge copper water piping, and ABS drain piping. The electrical wiring has been modernized to include, insulated romex type wire, grounded outlets, GFCI outlets where needed, and modern switches and receptacles.

The roof is less than ten years old, and is constructed of heavy gauge commercial quality galvanized steel. The steel is installed over a solid wood decking which received a hurricane approved waterproof underlayment. This is a superior quality roofing system, seldom used in residential applications. All ceramic tile and marble applications are installed over proper cementitious substrates, providing superior support, rigidity, and durability.

OUTSIDE, AND THE YARD:

The property is fully fenced, with a remote operated automatic gate. The driveway is large, providing space for four to six cars. The front yard has an automatic sprinkler system, which is expandable for up to three more zones. There is an irrigation well on the property that can be used to provide extremely low-cost (even free, solar) watering; the water is brackish - this is how many of the golf courses and resorts on the island keep their grounds so green!

There is a beach shower on the side of the home for rinsing sand and salt; it provides hot and cold water. A picket fence gives access from both front and back yards to an enclosed pet area. This area stays mostly shaded all day, and includes a generous raised, covered, and enclosed lounging area that extends under the house to keep pets protected from the elements. The entire property is studded with established trees which include: Fruiting Coconuts, heritage flowering Plumeria, Sea Grape, Tiata, Hibiscus, sprawling Ficus, Rubber, Mulungi and more. Delicious Apple Bananas , Papias, and Mangos also punctuate the property.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

Bounded by the Makaha Beach Park, Kea'au Beach park, the mountains, and Pacific Ocean, this little neighborhood is largely isolated from the bustle of the community at large. A favored of nearby beach neighborhoods, the "Makau Beach Loop" is home to many retired military people, transplants from the mainland, professionals, and families. Many homes in the neighborhood are vacation homes, whose owners are seldom seen. Most people know each other, and possess a healthy sense of community; walkers, joggers, and kids on bikes are commonplace. Makau Street is dotted with oceanfront access points, so going to watch the sunset, whales, dolphins, or waves is a favored passtime! Few people know that one of the best snorkeling venues exists right here; with underwater caves, coral reefs, sandbars, and tropical fish, the adventure begins at Makaha Beach Park and extends all the way to Kea'au Beach Park. The steep craggy mountain is also a noteworthy feature; as home to the roaming herds of wild mountain goats, it's always enjoyable to hear their distant conversations, and to watch them magically traverse the cliff sides. The mountain is also home to birds that nest high in the rocks! A two hour hike to top reveals an abandoned WWII bunker, and a breathtaking view of the neighborhood and coastline below.

BEYOND THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

Makaha Beach Park (aka Makaha Surfing Beach) is a world famous surfing venue. Numerous surfing competitions are regularly hosted at Makaha, bringing crowds from all around the world, and a festive atmosphere! The underwater caves are an attraction for snorkel tour boats that frequent the waters. Recent talk of plans to move the highway inland, and extend the park to include other areas beyond the beach line would make Makaha an even more enjoyable attraction. In many ways Makaha resembles the North Shore of only a few years ago.

The Makaha Tiger Woods designed PGA golf course is already in the works. When complete, it will extend down the valley, just adjacent to the beach park. All within easy walking distance, the reasons that make the Makau beach neighborhood so attractive just keep growing!

Continuing up the coast, past the neighborhood, are some of the most beautiful and spectacular natural, country vistas to be enjoyed in the state; white sand beaches, verdant green vallies, and Ka'ena Point State Park all demand exploration!

Grocery, convenience, and drug stores are all only a short drive away, in Makaha. A little past Makaha, in Waianae, there are even more services; to include a hospital, restaurants, hardware stores, surf shops, more grocery stores, Post Office, and more.

The resorts of Ko'Olina are only 15 miles away, and Kapolei is just 2 miles beyond the resorts. Kapolei (aka Second City) is a planned development that duplicates or moves many civil operations from the congested downtown Honolulu area. Businesses and neighborhoods seem to be appearing in the Kapolei sprawl almost overnight! Goods and Services provided to the entire state are quickly being shifted to this modernized complex. Even small commuter airlines have begun to operate from the adjacent airport, and soon the light rail will connect this end of the island to the Honolulu International Airport and downtown Honolulu, all the way to AlaMoana.
